on dispatched Special Envoy Richard Holbrooke to Belgrade for one last meeting with Milosevic on March 22. Milosevic accused the United States of sitting on the Albanian side of the table. His view was that the inevitable outcome of the three year period to determine the fate of Kosovo would be the severing of Kosovo from Serbia, an outcome he could not accept. Holbrooke asked him if he knew what his refusal to agree to the “Rambouillet Accord”meant. Milosevic replied “you are going to bomb us.” Holbrooke said,“that’s right.” There was no misunderstanding. The bombing started March 24. ??The bombing was initiated by NATO to stop ethnic cleansing and the killing of Albanian Kosovars.
